Patna: Bihar has crossed the halfway mark in its farmer registry initiative, a key digital governance programme designed to provide farmers with a unique digital identity and ensure direct access to government benefits. According to official data, 4,304,548 farmers have completed their registration out of 8,553,570 beneficiaries under the PM-KISAN scheme, taking the state to 50.3% of its overall target.
The milestone clears the way for Bihar to receive Rs 450 crore from the central government as part of an incentive-linked funding mechanism. Officials said the registry drive has been accelerated through special enrollment camps conducted across districts, involving coordinated efforts from revenue staff, agriculture officers, circle officials and district administrations.
District-level performance has varied, with Vaishali emerging as the top performer after achieving 102% of its registration target. Other districts, including Sheohar, Begusarai, Katihar and Buxar, have also reported strong progress, reaching or exceeding their goals. Under the PM-KISAN-linked farmer registry component, 2,251,639 farmers have been enrolled so far, accounting for 26.32% of the targeted group. Authorities said efforts are continuing to ensure full coverage.
The state government implemented the programme under Mission Mode-3, which included daily progress reviews, close monitoring and camp-based enrollment strategies at the field level. Officials said the achievement reflects sustained administrative coordination and the active participation of farmers in the digital identification process.
Vijay Sinha, a senior minister in the state government, described the development as a significant achievement and credited both officials and farmers for reaching the target ahead of schedule. He said the milestone demonstrates strong teamwork and will enable the state to secure additional financial support from the centre.
Agriculture minister Ramkripal Yadav said the registry initiative was being carried out in coordination with the agriculture and revenue departments through phased campaigns. He said the farmer ID system would improve transparency and ensure that benefits under schemes such as PM-KISAN are delivered directly to eligible farmers. He also urged farmers who have not yet registered to complete the process to avoid missing out on future benefits.
