PATNA: Young people in Bihar aspiring to work or pursue higher education abroad may soon be able to receive foreign language training within their own districts, with the state government planning to establish training centres across all 38 districts.
The initiative is being rolled out in phases during the 2026-27 financial year, with training set to begin at District Employment Offices. The programme aims to equip youth with language skills that can improve their prospects for overseas employment as well as higher studies.
Training will cover English, German, Japanese, Korean, French, Arabic, Russian, Chinese and Spanish. The languages offered are expected to be aligned with employment opportunities and requirements in different countries.
Online Classes, District-Level Support
A meeting on the initiative was held around a month ago at Niyojan Bhawan in Patna with District Employment Officers from across the state.
Under the proposed training model, language experts will conduct classes online, allowing candidates from different districts to participate without having to travel to major cities.
Experts will also be available at the respective district employment offices once a week to address trainees’ questions and resolve difficulties related to the courses.
The Bihar Skill Development Mission has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Korean language training, expanding the range of languages available to candidates.
The programme is expected to further expand its Spanish and French language offerings in the coming months.
Training to Begin in Samastipur
The first phase of the programme is being implemented at the district level, with Samastipur among the districts where training is scheduled to begin.
According to District Employment Officer Rohit Anand, foreign language training at the District Employment Office in Samastipur is scheduled to start from August 23. Applications are being invited from interested candidates, with training to be delivered online.
Around 45,000 unemployed youth are registered with the employment office in Samastipur, highlighting the potential pool of candidates who could benefit from the programme.
The district is also witnessing interest in overseas employment, with job opportunities reportedly emerging in countries including Singapore, Germany and Israel.
Language Skills Seen as Key to Overseas Employment
Officials believe that proficiency in the language of the destination country can significantly help candidates seeking jobs abroad.
Language skills can assist applicants during interviews and document-related processes while also making communication easier in workplaces and everyday situations after they move overseas.
The government expects district-level training to reduce the need for young people to travel to other cities for language courses and make overseas employment preparation more accessible.
Potential Benefits for Tourism Sector
The foreign language programme could also create opportunities within Bihar, particularly in the tourism sector.
Young people with proficiency in international languages could potentially work as tour guides, interact with foreign visitors and support tourism-related businesses that cater to international travellers.
The initiative could also help candidates navigate the process of overseas employment more safely. Government-supported training and employment channels may reduce dependence on unverified intermediaries and help applicants become better informed about interviews, embassy procedures, document verification and other stages involved in securing jobs abroad.
With plans for training centres in all 38 districts, the programme is aimed at bringing international employment and education preparation closer to Bihar’s youth while building language skills at the local level.
