Patna: Bihar is set for a politically charged Sunday as major parties and social groups hold high-profile events across the state, ramping up activity ahead of the assembly elections.
Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav is scheduled to inaugurate the Vaishya Pratinidhi Sammelan at Bapu Sabhagar in Patna, an event aimed at consolidating support among the influential Vaishya community. Organisers said representatives from across Bihar will attend the gathering, which is widely viewed as part of the RJD’s strategy to expand its social base.
Meanwhile, NDA allies are also mobilising. Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will stage the Bahujan Bhim Sankalp Samagam at the hockey ground in Rajgir. Rajesh Bhatt, the party’s chief spokesperson, said the event is expected to attract over three lakh Bahujans and party workers. Chirag, who is also a Union minister, will address the rally alongside senior party officials and candidates from multiple constituencies.
In Gaya, Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha plans a Constitutional Rights Delimitation Reform Maha Rally at Gandhi Maidan. Kushwaha, who has previously organised similar events in Muzaffarpur, is expected to press demands related to electoral reforms and constitutional safeguards.
Beyond the political rallies, Gandhi Maidan in Patna will also see the Waqf Bachao-Samvidhan Bachao conference, where Muslim organisations are set to protest amendments to the Waqf Act. Organisers said they intend to submit a legal memorandum demanding the reversal of recent changes to the law, citing threats to community property rights.
Additionally, supporters of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Social Harmony Campaign plan to march along Marine Drive in Patna, renewing their call for a prominent statue of Shivaji Maharaj near the Ganga river. Campaign convenor Pranav Prakash said the movement has been active for four years and claimed that around 30,000 people pledged support for the statue at an earlier rally in Bihar Sharif.
The convergence of rallies and protests across diverse groups underscores the intensifying political climate in Bihar, where parties are vying for community support and seeking to shape the electoral discourse ahead of the polls.
