Gayaji: The body of a five-year-old girl was discovered in the Dobhi area of Gaya district, late on Saturday night, in what police are treating as a suspected case of rape and murder. The grim discovery follows closely on the heels of another high-profile alleged gang rape in an ambulance in Bodh Gaya, further highlighting concerns about violence against women and children in the region.
The young girl’s body was found in a dilapidated toilet within a Forest Department nursery in Piparghatti. Local police, led by Dobhi police station in-charge Mukesh Kumar, arrived at the scene to investigate after being alerted to the incident.
According to family accounts, the girl had left her home in the evening with her elder sister to collect medicine. While her sister returned home, the younger girl did not. A search was launched when she failed to return by late evening, ultimately leading to the discovery of her body.
The family has alleged that the girl was raped before being strangled to death. In response to their complaint, police have taken a 13-year-old boy from the village into custody for questioning in connection with the incident.
