Patna: More than one crore people in Bihar will get a big relief today as the government is set to transfer their increased pension amount. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will send Rs 1,100 per month to old age people, widows, and differently abled persons under six different pension schemes. Earlier, the pension amount was Rs 400, but the state government has almost tripled it to help the needy.
A total of Rs 1,227 crore will be given to 1.11 crore beneficiaries through direct bank transfer. The highest number of pensioners is in Madhubani district, where over 5.5 lakh people will get Rs 61 crore. Patna has the second highest number, with Rs 57.94 crore being distributed to more than 5.2 lakh people. On the other hand, Sheikhpura has the lowest number of pensioners at around 72,000.
These six schemes include Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension, Mukhyamantri Vridhjan Pension, Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension, Lakshmibai Social Security Pension, Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension, and Bihar State Disability Pension. The government said this step will give financial security to poor and vulnerable people across Bihar.
Officials have confirmed that beneficiaries will start receiving the increased amount from July itself. This move aims to bring relief to the lower-income groups who depend on pensions for their daily needs.
