Patna : The Bihar Transport Department is preparing to install CCTV cameras in all government buses from December, introducing an online monitoring system aimed at improving passenger safety and accountability in public transport.
Under the proposed arrangement, footage captured by cameras inside the buses will be transmitted to a control room, allowing departmental officials to monitor activities remotely.
The system is expected to help authorities respond to complaints, investigate incidents and keep track of bus operations.
Passenger safety to be a key focus
The cameras will record activities inside buses, helping officials examine incidents such as disputes, passenger harassment or other untoward events.
The footage could be particularly useful in cases involving the safety of women and elderly passengers. It may also help authorities understand what happened during an emergency or when a passenger raises a complaint.
Officials to monitor buses from control room
The CCTV footage will be sent online to a control room, from where concerned officials will be able to observe activities inside the vehicles.
The system is also expected to help the department monitor bus operations and examine complaints of negligence or irregularities. Officials will be able to refer to recorded footage during investigations.
Drivers and bus staff will also come under surveillance
The proposed monitoring system will cover not only passenger-related incidents but also the conduct of drivers and other bus employees.
Footage may help authorities investigate allegations of misbehaviour with passengers, violations of prescribed rules and other operational complaints.
The department expects the initiative to improve transparency and accountability in the functioning of government bus services.
Installation work to begin in December
According to the department’s plan, the installation of CCTV cameras across all government buses will begin in December. The system is intended to strengthen monitoring and make public bus services safer and more accountable.
The report does not specify the total number of buses to be covered, the installation timeline for completing the rollout or the date when the online monitoring system will become fully operational.
