Patna: The Bihar government has announced that it will continue procuring wheat from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 2,425 per quintal until June 15, 2025, with payments processed within 48 hours of sale.
The procurement process, which began on April 1 across the state, is being carried out through Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) at the panchayat level and trade boards at the block level. Additionally, select centres operated by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) are also participating in the initiative.
The Department of Food and Consumer Protection has issued the procurement guidelines for the 2025–26 Rabi marketing season, aiming to provide wheat growers with fair market prices and eliminate the influence of middlemen.
To participate in the scheme, farmers must first register on the portal of the Department of Agriculture at www.dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in. After registering, they are required to apply through the Cooperative Department’s portal at https://esahkari.bihar.gov.in. Officials say the online process has increased transparency and efficiency in the procurement system.
By guaranteeing timely payments and an assured price, the government aims to improve the economic condition of farmers and prevent distress sales.
