Bihar Government Partners with Sulabh International to Enhance Public Toilets at Tourist Destinations

Patna: In a significant move to boost tourism infrastructure, the Bihar government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sulabh International for the quality maintenance of public toilets at major tourist destinations across the state. The decision, approved by the State Council of Ministers, aims to ensure clean and accessible public facilities for visitors while promoting employment opportunities.

The MoU was exchanged between Tourism Director Vinay Kumar Rai and representatives of Sulabh International in the presence of Tourism Minister Nitish Mishra and Tourism Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh. Addressing the event, Mishra stressed the importance of providing standardised basic facilities at tourist sites to enhance the experience for visitors.

“Ensuring clean and high-quality public toilets will not only improve tourists’ experiences but also contribute to clean tourism and employment generation,” said Mishra. He directed Sulabh International officials to implement an efficient maintenance system at all designated sites without delay.

Free Facilities for Tourists

Tourism Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh confirmed that public toilet facilities at these sites would be free for tourists. Sulabh International has been entrusted with the centralised responsibility for renovation, upkeep, and cleaning under a comprehensive system.
