Gaya: Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan visited the Mahabodhi Temple in Gaya on Monday evening, where he was accorded a warm welcome by officials and members of the Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC).
Upon arrival, Governor Khan was greeted by BTMC chairman and district magistrate Dr. Dr. Thiyagarajan SM, secretary Dr. Mahasweta Maharathi, chief monk Chalinda, as well as monks Dinananda and Manoj. Committee members Kiran Lama and Dr. Arvind Singh were also present to welcome him.
During his visit, the Governor offered prayers at the temple and meditated under the Bodhi tree, where Gautama Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment over 2,500 years ago. Reflecting on the site’s spiritual significance, he said the teachings of Buddha continue to inspire peace, harmony, and humanity.
The Gaya DM presented the Governor with souvenirs and special publications on behalf of the temple management. He also briefed him on ongoing development projects and the facilities being provided for devotees. Dr. Maharathi, the committee’s secretary, reaffirmed the commitment to preserving the temple’s historical and religious significance.
Governor Khan described the Mahabodhi Temple as not just Bihar’s pride but a global symbol of peace and unity. He urged the government and the management committee to enhance the temple’s appeal while ensuring its preservation. Concluding his visit, he said the experience had reinforced his appreciation for the site’s religious and cultural importance.
