Bihar Govt Approves Expansion of Darbhanga Runway, Development of Raxaul and Birpur Airports

Patna: The Bihar government has stepped up efforts to enhance air connectivity across the state, with the cabinet approving a series of key proposals to develop new airports and expand existing facilities.
Following Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s inspection of Patna and Bihta airports on Thursday, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) announced that measures are being taken to improve aviation infrastructure across the state. Among the key initiatives is the acquisition of 139 acres for the proposed Raxaul Brownfield Airport, with an estimated budget of Rs 207 crore. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has already completed a pre-feasibility study and an obstacle limitation surface (OLS) survey for the project.
In a bid to boost air traffic, Darbhanga Airport is set for runway expansion to accommodate larger aircraft. The project will require 90 acres of additional land at a cost of Rs 245 crore. Meanwhile, under the Udaan scheme, the government has sanctioned Rs 42.37 crore to acquire 88.83 acres for the development of Birpur Airport in Supaul.
With these initiatives, the total expenditure on land acquisition for aviation projects in Bihar now stands at Rs 495 crore, marking a significant investment in the state’s air travel infrastructure.
