Patna: The Bihar government has announced a new policy to provide government land to the families of soldiers who were killed in action while serving the nation. The decision aims to support the dependents of fallen soldiers by ensuring long-term security through land ownership in their home districts.

Under the new policy, the family of an eligible soldier will be allotted either one acre of government land in rural areas for agricultural use or five dismil of land for residential purposes in the home block. The benefit will be available to families of soldiers who had completed at least six months of continuous service and were killed in action during active duty.

The government will charge only a nominal one-time fee, and no annual land rent will be collected for the first five years. To qualify, the recommendation of the Sainik Welfare Board and a certificate confirming a minimum of six months of satisfactory service will be mandatory.

The policy has come into effect immediately.

Deputy Chief Minister and Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Vijay Sinha said the move reflects the government’s gratitude toward the armed forces and its commitment to the welfare of their families. He said the state stands with the families who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.

Eligibility Conditions
To receive land under this policy, the dependent must be a resident of Bihar and must not already own private residential land. If the family is found to have any private housing land in their name, they will not be eligible for government land allotment.

The initiative is expected to provide dignity, stability, and long-term support to the families of soldiers who lost their lives in war.
