Patna: Senior citizens aged 80 years and above in Bihar will soon be able to complete property and other registrations from their homes, following a cabinet decision aimed at improving accessibility and ease of services.
The proposal, approved under the Prohibition, Excise and Registration Department, Bihar, introduces the Bihar Registration Rules 2026, which enable doorstep registration for elderly citizens.
Doorstep Registration Facility
Under the new system, mobile registration units will be deployed to visit applicants at their residences.
Officials said these units will collect biometric data, verify documents and complete the entire registration process on-site.
The initiative, approved at a cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Samrat Choudhary, is being introduced for the first time in the state.
Push For Paperless System
Authorities said the new rules will make the registration process fully digital, eliminating the need for physical documents.
Digital signatures of both officials and applicants will be used, streamlining procedures and reducing paperwork.
NFSU Campus In Patna Approved
In a separate decision, the cabinet approved the establishment of a campus of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Patna district.
The campus will be developed on 50 acres of land in the Punpun block, along with a central forensic science laboratory.
The project has received approval from the central government, with Rs 287.16 crore sanctioned for its development.
