Patna: The Bihar government has promoted five Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers to the rank of Joint Secretary, calling it an important step to strengthen administration in the state. All five officers belong to the 2022 batch of the IAS. The General Administration Department issued the official notification on Sunday, confirming the promotions and highlighting the government’s focus on improving leadership at senior levels.
The officers who have been promoted are Parth Gupta, currently posted as Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) in Purnea; Ashish Kumar, SDO of Barh; Gaurav Kumar, SDO of Bagaha; Kajle Vaibhav Nitin, SDO of Biharsharif; and Nishant Sihare, SDO of Motihari Sadar. With their promotion to Joint Secretary rank, these officers are expected to take on greater responsibilities and play a larger role in policy decisions and administrative planning across the state.
Alongside these promotions, Bhojpur district has seen a major strengthening of its administrative setup. A new IAS officer, Shipra Vijay Kumar Chaudhary of the 2023 batch, has been appointed as Ara Sadar Sub-Divisional Officer. With her posting, Bhojpur now has four IAS officers working at the same time in key positions. Officials say this is a rare situation and is expected to greatly improve coordination and decision-making in the district.
At present, District Magistrate Tanay Sultania, Deputy Development Commissioner Gunjan Singh and trainee IAS officer Syed Adil Mohsin are already serving in Bhojpur. The addition of another IAS officer is expected to speed up administrative processes and ensure better monitoring of government schemes. The district administration believes this will help in faster implementation of development projects and better delivery of services to the public.
The district has also been strengthened with the posting of four officers of Additional District Magistrate (ADM) rank in important departments. Shashi Shekhar has been appointed as ADM Revenue, Dr Baldev Chaudhary as District Public Grievance Redressal Officer, Qamar Alam as ADM Disaster Management and Vimal Kumar Singh as ADM Special. These officers will handle key areas such as revenue matters, disaster response, public complaints and special administrative work.
Senior officials say that with this strong team in place, development work in Bhojpur is expected to gain new momentum. Special attention will be given to quality and transparency in sectors like roads, education, health, employment and infrastructure. The government hopes that these administrative changes will lead to quicker decisions, better governance and visible improvement in people’s daily lives.
