Patna: A coordinated surprise inspection drive, dubbed “Operation Clean”, was carried out across jails in several districts of Bihar on Friday, with senior administrative and police officials leading early-morning searches to assess security and prison conditions.
The operation spanned facilities in districts including Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Hajipur, Bettiah, Sitamarhi and Aurangabad, where district magistrates (DMs) and superintendents of police (SPs) personally supervised the action.
Teams comprising more than 200 personnel entered prison complexes at dawn, conducting detailed searches of barracks, wards and security installations.
Inspections Across Major Jails
At the Shaheed Jubba Sahni Central Jail in Bhagalpur, officials including the district magistrate and senior superintendent of police reviewed security arrangements, sanitation, inmate facilities and overall law and order. Authorities issued directives to strengthen surveillance systems and eliminate any lapses.
A similar high-level inspection was conducted at the divisional jail in Hajipur, where officials examined monitoring systems and operational efficiency. No objectionable items were recovered during the search.
In Motihari Central Jail, authorities carried out an intensive inspection of all wards, reporting no recovery of prohibited materials and stating that inmate activities were under constant surveillance.
Late-night raids were also conducted at Bettiah divisional jail, where officials inspected all sections of the facility and issued instructions to tighten security protocols.
The largest operation took place at the Shaheed Khudiram Bose Central Jail in Muzaffarpur, where a team led by the senior superintendent of police conducted a four-hour search involving around 200 personnel. No suspicious items were found.
Recoveries In Sitamarhi And Aurangabad
However, inspections in some districts revealed concerns. In Sitamarhi jail, officials recovered documents containing mobile numbers and objectionable content, prompting heightened vigilance and discussions on transferring high-risk inmates.
In Aurangabad divisional jail, tools such as pliers, screwdrivers and iron pieces were seized, which authorities described as potential security threats. The items were confiscated, and an inquiry has been ordered.
