Patna: Bihar Khadi has announced a festive discount scheme, offering up to 50% off a wide range of Khadi products at its malls in Patna and Muzaffarpur, as well as through its official website. The offer, launched ahead of Dussehra, Diwali, Gandhi Jayanti and Chhath, will run until October 31.
The discounted range includes Bhagalpuri tussar silk, Sujni art sarees, Madhubani and Batik prints, cotton sarees, Khadi kurta sets, bedsheets, curtains, and other handloom goods. Bhagalpuri silk and Sujni, regarded as Bihar’s cultural identity, have long been in demand both across India and abroad.
The timing of the sale aligns with Gandhi Jayanti, underscoring the legacy of Khadi as a symbol of self-reliance and Swadeshi championed by Mahatma Gandhi. With festival traditions calling for new clothing and home decorations, officials expect the offer to appeal strongly to buyers.
Demand for Khadi textiles typically peaks during Chhath, with women and families preferring traditional sarees for rituals and festivities. By offering major discounts, the department hopes to increase sales volumes while supporting local weavers and artisans.
A senior official said the initiative was designed to deliver “dual benefits” — making authentic handloom products more affordable while ensuring that artisans and craftspeople receive higher incomes. Increased sales, they noted, strengthen the rural economy by directly channelling revenue to weaving communities.
