Bihar: Lalu Prasad’s Daughter Rohini Acharya Launches Campaign in Saran, Vows to Continue Father’s Legacy
Saran: Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad, embarked on her electoral campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Bihar, expressing her determination to make Saran constituency, from where she is contesting on a party ticket, her “field of action”. Arriving at Pahleza Ghat in Sonepur, she was greeted warmly by a large gathering of party supporters.
“I am deeply touched by the affection and blessings I am receiving from the people of Saran. Their reception feels like that of a daughter returning home. I feel immensely grateful. Saran has been my father’s bastion of service, and now it is poised to become mine,” she affirmed.
The Saran constituency is slated for voting in the fifth phase on May 20. Before she departed for Saran, Acharya, who resides in Singapore, sought the blessings of Baba Hariharnath in Patna, stating, “Now, I am off to meet the people of Saran. I request the media to also extend their blessings to me.”
Responding to the RJD’s decision to nominate Acharya from Saran, Bihar BJP president and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary criticized it as a manifestation of “dynastic politics”. He remarked, “RJD supremo Lalu Prasad’s inclination towards promoting family members in electoral politics exemplifies dynastic politics. Having already brought his two sons and daughters into the political arena, one wonders when his other five daughters will follow suit.”
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha took a swipe at Acharya, highlighting her residence in Singapore and her decision to contest from Saran. He stated, “She resides in Singapore and now seeks to contest elections in Saran. The electorate will decide whether to support someone committed to Bihar (referring to BJP nominee Rajiv Pratap Rudy from Saran) or someone from Singapore.”
The BJP had earlier announced its list of candidates for 17 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, dropping three incumbent MPs, including Union Minister Ashwani Kumar Choubey, on March 24. The Mahagathbandhan alliance in Bihar also finalized its seat-sharing arrangement, with the RJD contesting 26 constituencies, the Congress in nine, and the Left parties in five.
The Lok Sabha elections for the 40 parliamentary seats in Bihar are scheduled across seven phases between April 19 and June 1.
