Patna: The central government has simplified the process for LPG consumers in Bihar to complete their e-KYC, a step now mandatory for receiving subsidies under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). The move allows beneficiaries to complete biometric Aadhaar authentication digitally, free of charge, from the comfort of their homes.
Under the new system, LPG users can begin the process by visiting pmuy.gov.in/e-kyc.html or scanning the QR code provided on the website. Consumers will need to download their respective oil marketing company’s app along with the ‘Aadhaar Face Read’ app. Following on-screen instructions, the biometric verification is completed via a face scan, taking just a few minutes.
E-KYC has become particularly crucial for PMUY beneficiaries, as the government has made it compulsory each financial year to claim the targeted subsidy of Rs. 300 on the 8th and 9th LPG refills. Officials have warned that failing to complete the e-KYC process could result in the withholding of subsidies.
Authorities say the digital process will help prevent ineligible claims and fake connections, ensuring that subsidies reach the intended beneficiaries. The use of biometric Aadhaar authentication is expected to increase transparency and curb misuse of government funds.
The online facility is expected to provide significant relief to rural consumers, the elderly, and women, who often face long queues at LPG agencies or Aadhaar centres. Completing e-KYC from home saves time and reduces the effort and cost associated with in-person verification.
