MUZAFFARPUR – Special Judge Pritima Parihar of the POCSO court has delivered a verdict, sentencing Mohammad Saddam from Manigachhi village in Muzaffarpur district to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. Alongside the imprisonment, Saddam is also liable to pay a fine of twenty thousand rupees for the heinous crime of sexual assault against a minor.
The court, recognizing the severity of the offence, has further ordered a compensation payment of five lakh rupees under the Bihar Victim Compensation Scheme for the rehabilitation of the victim. The disbursement of this assistance will be facilitated through the district legal service authority.
Saddam, the accused, had perpetrated the crime of sexual assault against a minor, fleeing the scene upon the villagers hearing the child’s screams. The incident prompted the registration of a case for offences under section 376(3) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4(2) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Special Public Prosecutor Vijay Kumar Parajit, representing the prosecution, played a crucial role in ensuring justice for the victim. Ten witnesses provided testimony during the trial, contributing to the case’s strength. The court pronounced the verdict on Monday, December 11, marking a significant step towards addressing crimes against minors in the region.
