New Delhi/Patna: Bihar MLA Raju Singh has been convicted by a Delhi court in connection with a celebratory firing incident that resulted in the death of a woman doctor during a New Year’s Eve gathering in 2018.

According to media reports, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court found the Sahebganj legislator guilty under Section 304 (Part II) of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and under Section 30 of the Arms Act. The court subsequently ordered that he be taken into custody.

The court acquitted three other accused in the case — Renu Singh, the MLA’s wife, along with Rana Rajesh Singh and Ramendra Singh.

Case Stems From 2018 Celebratory Firing Incident

According to media reports, the case relates to an incident that occurred on December 31, 2018, during New Year’s Eve celebrations in Delhi.

During the gathering, celebratory gunfire allegedly took place, and Dr Archana Gupta was struck by a bullet. She later succumbed to her injuries.

Following the incident, a criminal case was registered at Fatehpur Beri police station, leading to a lengthy legal process that culminated in the court’s verdict.

Political Career Across Multiple Parties

Raju Singh is a prominent political figure from Bihar and currently represents the Sahebganj Assembly constituency. He was inducted as a minister in the Bihar government on February 26, 2025.

His family has long been involved in local politics. His father has served multiple terms as Mukhiya of the Anandpur Kharauni Panchayat.

Over the years, Singh has been associated with several political parties, including the BJP, JD(U), Lok Janshakti Party and the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP).

He joined JD(U) in 2015 but was unsuccessful in the subsequent Assembly election. He later switched to VIP and won the 2020 Bihar Assembly election before joining the BJP in 2022.

Wife Also Active In Politics

Renu Singh, who was acquitted in the case, has also played an active role in Bihar politics. She has served as a Member of the Legislative Council from East Champaran.

Reports further suggest that Raju Singh contested an election as an independent candidate to facilitate her election to the Legislative Council.
