Patna, September 8: Monsoon activity has weakened across Bihar, but the threat of heavy rainfall remains in several parts of the state, with the weather department issuing district-wise alerts through September 10.
According to the latest weather assessment, light to moderate rainfall was recorded at several locations during the past 24 hours. Rainfall was reported across parts of north-western Bihar, some areas of the north-central and south-central regions, and isolated locations elsewhere. Mushahari recorded the highest rainfall at 62.4 mm during the period.
Aurangabad recorded the highest maximum temperature at 34.9°C, while Rajgir recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 24.6°C.
Weather System Continues To Influence Bihar
The weather department said the low-pressure area over central Uttar Pradesh has weakened. However, an associated cyclonic circulation continues to persist over eastern Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas of Bihar.
The monsoon trough is also passing through Bihar, which is expected to influence rainfall activity across parts of the state. The department has also indicated the possibility of a fresh low-pressure area forming over the Bay of Bengal around September 11.
Heavy Rain Forecast Through September 10
No major change in maximum and minimum temperatures is expected across Bihar over the next five days. However, several districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall.
On September 8, heavy rain is forecast in Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnia and Siwan. On September 9, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan and West Champaran are expected to receive heavy rainfall. On September 10, heavy rain is likely in Gaya, Saran and Siwan.
Thunderstorms And Strong Winds Expected
The weather department has also forecast thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in parts of Bihar. These conditions are particularly likely in the north-western, north-eastern, south-eastern and south-central parts of the state, where winds could reach speeds of 30 to 40 kmph.
The combination of rainfall, lightning and strong winds could cause temporary disruption in affected areas, particularly during thunderstorms.
Advisory For Lightning And Heavy Rain
The weather department has advised residents to take precautions during thunderstorms and lightning. People caught outdoors have been advised to move to a safe, permanent building and avoid taking shelter under tall trees. Residents should also stay away from electric poles, exposed wires and other electrical infrastructure during lightning activity.
Heavy rainfall could also lead to rising river levels and waterlogging in low-lying areas, particularly in locations already affected by high water levels.
With rainfall expected to continue in parts of Bihar, residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to monitor weather updates and follow official safety instructions.
