Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday inspected the construction of the second phase of the Kacchi Dargah–Bidupur six-lane Ganga bridge, describing the project as crucial to strengthening road connectivity between Patna and large parts of North Bihar.
During the review, held between the Hajipur–Mahnar road and Chaksikandar, CM Nitish said that the inauguration of the first phase earlier this year had already restored connectivity from Patna to Raghopur. He added that he had been regularly monitoring the project and pressing officials to accelerate the remaining work.
He directed engineers and senior officials to ensure that all pending work — including approach roads — is completed “at the earliest”, stressing that uninterrupted movement of traffic must be prioritised. Once operational, he said, the bridge will improve access to Patna for residents, boost agriculture and trade in surrounding districts, and ease the load on the ageing Mahatma Gandhi Setu.

“The new bridge will offer an important alternative corridor between north and south Bihar,” the Chief Minister said, noting that timely completion would make travel to Patna quicker for patients seeking emergency medical care and open new routes for movement across the region.
The Rs 4,988-crore greenfield project spans 19.76 km, including a 9.76-km bridge across the Ganga and 10 km of approach roads. The section from Kacchi Dargah to Raghopur Diara — 4.57 km — was inaugurated on June 2, 2025. The second phase extends from Hajipur–Mahnar Road (NH-122B) to Chaksikandar (NH-322), while the third will link Raghopur Diara to the Hajipur–Mahnar corridor. Officials said that 85% of the work has been completed.
The inspection was attended by Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Kumar Ravi, BSRDCL Managing Director Shirsham Kapil Ashok, Patna District Magistrate Dr Thyagarajan S.M., Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma and other officials.
