Guwahati/Patna: The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police has arrested two men from Bihar in connection with an alleged espionage network suspected of sharing sensitive security-related information with a Pakistan-linked intelligence operative.

The accused have been identified as 31-year-old Abhishek Kumar Singh from East Champaran and 39-year-old Ritesh Singh from Begusarai. According to Assam Police, both men were living in a rented house in Gandhinagar under the Satgaon police station area of Guwahati.

Police allege that the two men were in contact with an operative linked to a Pakistani intelligence agency and were involved in sharing sensitive information concerning security forces.

Arrests Follow Military Intelligence Inputs

According to Assam Police, the arrests were made following initial inputs received from Military Intelligence.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said two people had been arrested on allegations of providing security-related information to Pakistan. He said one of those arrested was a retired Army personnel who had subsequently been re-employed on a contractual basis.

The arrests were reportedly carried out based on inputs received from central agencies. Investigators are now examining the nature of the alleged information shared and identifying other people who may have been connected to the network.

Mobile Phone, SIM Cards and Documents Seized

Police said a mobile phone, multiple SIM cards and documents were recovered from the possession of Abhishek Kumar Singh.

The seized material is being examined as part of the investigation. Investigators are trying to determine what information was allegedly shared, when the communication with the Pakistan-linked operative began and whether other individuals were involved.

East Champaran Police Confirm Arrest

East Champaran Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat also confirmed receiving information about Abhishek Kumar Singh’s arrest.

According to the police, local authorities are collecting information about the accused’s family and background as part of the investigation.

The local inquiry is expected to help investigators establish the accused’s background and identify any additional links that may be relevant to the case.

Assam STF Investigates Alleged Intelligence Network

The Assam Police STF is continuing to question both accused and examine the evidence recovered during the operation.

Investigators are looking into the alleged connection with the Pakistan-linked operative, the duration of the communication and the nature and extent of any sensitive information that may have been shared.

The police investigation is also focused on identifying any other people who may have been associated with the alleged network.

Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
