Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Monday launched 80 pink buses in Bihar that will run especially for women. The buses were flagged off from Ek Ane Marg in Patna in the presence of senior ministers and officials. Kumar said the service will make travel safer and easier for women and will also help in giving them more confidence to move freely across the state.
Before starting the service, the chief minister inspected the buses himself. He checked the seats, space and facilities to ensure passengers will have a comfortable ride. Speaking at the event, Kumar called the step an important part of the government’s efforts to empower women. He said that when women are able to travel safely, they can participate more in education, jobs and other activities.
Along with the pink buses, the state government also introduced e-ticketing in all 1,065 buses of the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation. Officials said this system will reduce the need to stand in long queues at counters and will make the process of buying tickets faster and more transparent. It is also expected to bring more discipline in the state’s bus services.
Deputy chief minister Samrat Chaudhary, Vijay Kumar Sinha, and several top officers including chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit and transport commissioner Ashutosh Dwivedi were present at the launch. They said the pink buses and e-ticketing system together mark a new phase in modernising Bihar’s transport network, with women’s safety placed at the centre of the plan.
