Bihar: Police Officer Accused Of Assaulting Doctor, IMA Demands Action
Rohtas: A doctor from a private hospital in Sanjhauli, Rohtas district, was allegedly assaulted by a police officer, leading to the doctor’s hospitalization in Patna. The victim has filed a complaint demanding the arrest of the officer.
The victim, Dr. Gaurav Kumar Abhishek, alleged that while outside his hospital, he was approached by the accused officer, Shivam Kumar, who demanded a bribe for treating his back pain. Upon refusal, the officer reportedly resorted to violence, also assaulting the doctor’s father. The officer is further accused of using abusive language towards the doctor’s mother.
The altercation escalated, with the doctor being taken to the police station and reportedly beaten. He was released after senior officials intervened. The doctor then sought medical attention before being referred for further treatment.
The Indian Medical Association’s Bihar branch has demanded the arrest of the accused officer. The IMA has also called for the officer’s dismissal from service, warning of a potential statewide medical strike if action is not taken.
Rohtas Superintendent of Police has assured an investigation into the incident. The accused officer has been transferred from the Sanjhauli police station pending the inquiry. The SP emphasized that both sides have presented conflicting accounts and assured that every party involved will be heard. He clarified that the officer was in plainclothes and on personal business at the time of the incident.
