Patna: Bihar has stepped up preparations to host the 2030 FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup in Rajgir, with Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh saying the state government’s proposal for the tournament has been accepted.
The proposal was discussed during the Asian Games in Japan in connection with the 2030 FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup. Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh, Sports Department Secretary Deepak Anand and Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Singh were present during the discussions.
Focus On Women’s Hockey In Bihar
Shreyasi Singh said hosting the World Cup would provide Bihar with an opportunity to strengthen its presence in international sports.
She said the arrival of top women hockey players from around the world would give young players in Bihar an opportunity to watch international-level hockey closely and draw inspiration from leading athletes.
According to the minister, the tournament could also help create a stronger environment for promoting women’s hockey and identifying emerging talent in the state.
She described the event as an opportunity for young players to set new goals by seeing world-class athletes compete in Bihar.
‘World’s Daughters Come To Bihar’
The Sports Minister said the state’s broader ambition was to connect Bihar’s young athletes with the international sporting community.
She said the aim was for women players from around the world to come to Bihar while athletes from Bihar reach international platforms.
Rajgir has already gained experience in hosting international hockey competitions, which has contributed to the development and visibility of the state’s sports infrastructure.
Rajgir Hosted Women’s Asian Champions Trophy
Rajgir hosted the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy from November 11 to 20, 2024, featuring teams from India, China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and Thailand.
India won the final against China 1-0 to claim the title.
The city later hosted the Men’s Asia Cup Hockey from August 29 to September 7, 2025. India also won that tournament.
The successful hosting of these international competitions has strengthened Rajgir’s profile as a venue for major hockey events.
World Cup Could Give Young Players A New Target
The proposed 2030 Women’s Hockey World Cup would bring some of the world’s leading women hockey players to Bihar and provide a major international platform for the state’s sporting infrastructure.
For young hockey players in Bihar, the event could offer greater exposure to international competition and help create opportunities for developing the sport at the grassroots level.
