Patna: The weather pattern across Bihar is expected to remain unstable for the next seven days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 60 kmph in several districts.
According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall activity is likely across all districts of the state on Tuesday. A yellow alert has been issued for 19 districts, while another 19 districts have been placed under an orange alert due to the possibility of heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning strikes.
Officials said Bihar has recorded 193 per cent excess rainfall compared to normal levels so far this season. Over the past 24 hours, Kaimur was the hottest district with a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. Temperatures in five districts, including Buxar, remained above 35 degrees Celsius.
In Patna, the weather is expected to remain cloudy over the next few days, with forecasts predicting heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds on Tuesday. The IMD has also warned of possible lightning strikes in some parts of the capital city.
While humidity and heat are likely to cause discomfort during the daytime, residents may experience relief after rainfall as temperatures are expected to dip.
The weather department has forecast continued instability across Bihar in the coming days, with alerts for thunderstorms, rain and lightning in multiple regions.
On May 11, thunderstorm and lightning activity is likely in north-central, north-eastern and south-eastern Bihar. On May 12, strong winds are expected in north Bihar, while several parts of south Bihar may also witness thunderstorms and lightning. Between May 13 and May 15, north-eastern and north-central Bihar are likely to experience thundercloud activity and gusty winds.
Meteorologists attributed the changing weather conditions to a system formed over the Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions, which has triggered active pre-monsoon conditions across the state. However, weather conditions are expected to stabilise after May 20.
The IMD has advised people to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions and avoid open spaces during lightning activity. Officials added that maximum temperatures may rise by up to four degrees Celsius after May 20, leading to increased heat across the state.
