Patna: The Bihar Renewable Energy Policy 2025 has drawn praise from the Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICC), Bihar State Council, which described it as a crucial step towards transforming the state into a hub for green energy and sustainable industrial development.

Welcoming the policy on Friday, ICC Bihar State Council chairman Prabhat Kumar Sinha called it a “historic roadmap” to place Bihar at the forefront of India’s green energy revolution. “The target of around 24 GW of renewable energy capacity and 6 GWh of energy storage by 2030 reflects the bold vision of the State Government,” he said.

Sinha highlighted the range of incentives outlined in the policy, including 100% waivers on electricity tax, State GST, and transmission and wheeling charges for 15 to 20 years, saying such measures would significantly boost investor confidence and lower business costs. “ICC has been advocating such a policy for Bihar for a long time. It will open up new opportunities for public-private partnerships, innovation and youth-led green entrepreneurship,” he added.

Echoing this optimism, K.K. Singh, chairman of the ICC Bihar Renewable Energy Committee, praised the policy’s broad and inclusive focus on diverse renewable sources such as rooftop and land-based solar, floating solar, agrivoltaics, small hydro, wind, biomass and green hydrogen. He also welcomed the emphasis on energy storage systems, hybrid parks, and the appointment of the Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA) as the implementing body.

However, Singh stressed that the success of the policy would depend on critical factors such as grid integration, skilled workforce development and effective planning. “Industry collaboration, grid integration, skilled manpower and climate-friendly planning are essential for the implementation of this policy. ICC will provide full support in awareness generation, investor mobilisation and collaboration with the government,” he said.

Both ICC leaders reaffirmed their commitment to partnering with the state government to translate the policy’s ambitions into tangible outcomes. “This policy can lay the foundation for inclusive growth and a sustainable future in Bihar,” Sinha said.
