Patna : Bihar’s Road Construction Department plans to raise Rs 21,000 crore in loans to accelerate around 100 road and bridge projects across the state, including the extension of the JP Ganga Path from Digha towards Koilwar.
The project list has been submitted to the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for financing. According to the department, the proposed borrowing covers 65 road projects and more than 35 bridge projects, comprising both ongoing and new works.
Of the total borrowing, Rs 15,000 crore has been earmarked for road projects, while Rs 6,000 crore will be used for bridge construction.
NABARD To Approve Loans Project-Wise
The projects have been divided between two state agencies. The Bihar State Road Development Corporation (BSRDC) will receive financing for road projects, while the Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation will handle the bridge projects.
NABARD will examine the details of each project before approving the required loan. The funds are expected to be released in phases after individual projects receive approval.
Discussions between NABARD and the two state corporations are already underway, with officials expecting the disbursement process to begin soon.
The project list was reportedly sent to NABARD around two months ago.
Digha–Koilwar Ganga Path Among Key Projects
One of the major projects in the plan is the extension of the JP Ganga Path from Digha through Danapur Cantonment, Sherpur and onwards to Koilwar.
The Bihar State Road Development Corporation has already invited bids for the Digha–Sherpur–Koilwar extension under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). The project has an estimated cost of around Rs 5,544 crore, excluding GST, according to BSRDC documents.
BSRDC’s ongoing-project records also list the Digha–Koilwar extension as a major project under the state’s road infrastructure programme.
Major Roads And Bypasses On The List
The proposed financing covers several important connectivity projects across Bihar.
These include the 42-km Bariarpur–Sultanganj road and the 40.80-km Sultanganj–Bhagalpur–Sabour Ganga Path.
Other projects include the Digha–Koilwar Ganga Path, a road connecting Darbhanga Medical College with AIIMS, and the Ara–Mohania bypass at Kochas.
The list also includes four-laning from Danapur Cantonment through Maner to Bihta, the Chhapra–Bettiah bypass and the Gopalganj bypass.
In Siwan district, the proposed works include widening the road from Andar Dhala to Hussainganj.
Projects From Pragati Yatra And Other Major Works
The project list also includes road and bridge works announced during the then chief minister Nitish Kumar’s Pragati Yatra, along with other projects costing more than Rs 50 crore.
A broader financing arrangement with NABARD has also been reported for Bihar’s road and bridge infrastructure, with the Road Construction Department signing a Rs 21,000 crore agreement in August 2026.
The planned financing is expected to help the state move forward with major connectivity projects, including Ganga Path extensions, bypasses, road widening and bridge construction.
The Digha–Koilwar section is particularly significant for Patna’s western connectivity, with the planned route linking Digha with the Danapur, Sherpur and Koilwar areas. BSRDC’s official project information identifies the Digha–Sherpur–Koilwar extension among its major Patna-area projects.
