Patna: Bihar has achieved a remarkable feat by setting two Guinness World Records — one for the world’s largest Madhubani painting and another for the largest singing bowl ensemble performed by Buddhist monks. The records come just ahead of the Khelo India Youth Games 2025, scheduled from May 4 to May 15 across five cities in Bihar.
A team of 50 women artists from Mithila Chitrakala Sansthan in Saurath, Madhubani, created the Madhubani painting, which measured 18.69 square meters (approximately 201.17 square feet). Under the guidance of Padma Shri awardee Baua Devi, the artists completed the work in 50 hours using natural colors. The painting celebrates Bihar’s rich artistic traditions and will be unveiled during the opening ceremony of the Khelo India Youth Games.
In a parallel achievement, 375 Buddhist monks performed a synchronized singing bowl ensemble at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya. The monks, aged between five and seventy, surpassed the previous record of 100 participants, setting a new world record and showcasing Bihar’s deep-rooted spiritual heritage.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar received the Guinness World Records certificates at a special ceremony held at Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna. The event was attended by Guinness World Records adjudicator Rishi and Bihar State Sports Authority officials.
