Patna: Two young men were found shot dead in a suspected revenge killing in Patna district on Tuesday morning, in what is the second double homicide reported in the area within 24 hours.
The bodies of Sonu Kumar and Roshan Kumar were discovered near Majhauli Singhara village in the Bikram police station area, part of the Paliganj subdivision. Police recovered a black Apache motorbike and 10 spent bullet cartridges from the scene.
Authorities confirmed that both men were named suspects in the 2021 murder of a local chowkidar (village watchman), Dharmendra Paswan. The earlier incident had occurred in Naghar village, also under the jurisdiction of Bikram police station.
According to local police, preliminary reports suggest both men were shot in the head at close range, possibly overnight. Family members of the deceased claim that each victim sustained six bullet wounds.
“They had told family members they were heading to Akhtiyarpur village to negotiate a settlement related to the old murder case,” said a police official. “They were killed en route, which strongly suggests the motive may be rooted in ongoing enmity.”
The killings come just a day after another double murder in Patna, in which a mother and daughter were shot dead on Monday morning.
Local residents spotted the bodies while out on a morning walk and alerted authorities through the emergency number 112. Officers from Bikram police station responded and cordoned off the area.
Bikram station in-charge Vinod Kumar told The Guardian that the exact motive remains unclear. “The Patna Forensic Science Laboratory team has been notified, and further investigations are underway,” he said. Paliganj Deputy Superintendent of Police, Umeshwar Kumar Chaudhary, confirmed that the victims’ families have been informed. “We are currently awaiting a formal complaint from the families to proceed with the case,” he said. The bodies have been sent to AIIMS Patna for postmortem examination. Police are continuing to investigate any links between the latest killings and the unresolved 2021 chowkidar murder.
