Patna: Candidates appearing for the Bihar Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) 2026 will be allowed to apply for the Bihar Public Service Commission’s (BPSC) Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4) even before their STET results are declared.
However, qualifying STET 2026 will remain mandatory for appearing in TRE-4. Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari said candidates can apply under the ‘appearing’ category, but TRE-4 admit cards will be issued only to those who subsequently clear the STET.
Why STET Candidates Can Apply Before Results
The decision follows repeated demands from candidates to conduct STET before the next teacher recruitment examination.
According to Tiwari, the BPSC will issue the TRE-4 advertisement in advance so that candidates appearing for STET 2026 do not lose the opportunity to apply while waiting for their eligibility-test results.
The TRE-4 examination, however, will be conducted only after the STET results are declared.
STET Application Process to Begin August 17
The application process for STET 2026 is scheduled to begin on August 17, according to the Education Minister.
The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) is responsible for conducting STET, while the BPSC will issue the TRE-4 advertisement and conduct the teacher recruitment examination.
The Education Department has asked the two bodies to coordinate their schedules so that STET results are available before TRE-4 is conducted.
What Happens After Applying for TRE-4?
Candidates who are appearing for STET can submit their TRE-4 applications under the ‘appearing’ category.
However, this does not mean that they will automatically be eligible to take the recruitment examination.
The STET result will be declared before TRE-4, and only candidates who qualify the eligibility test will be issued TRE-4 admit cards.
This means candidates will need to clear STET 2026 to proceed to the next stage of the teacher recruitment process.
BPSC to Decide TRE-4 Examination Date
The exact date of the TRE-4 examination has not yet been announced.
Tiwari said the authority to announce the examination schedule rests with the BPSC and that the state government cannot announce the date on behalf of the commission.
The Education Department has requested the BPSC to coordinate the TRE-4 schedule with the declaration of STET results.
Coordination Between BSEB and BPSC
Tiwari said discussions have taken place between the concerned authorities regarding the examination schedule.
The Education Department has also asked BSEB chairman Tyagarajan to coordinate with the BPSC to ensure that the STET process is completed in time.
The minister said officials have been instructed to complete the process according to schedule and avoid disruption to the examination calendar.
