
Patna: Bihar is all set to organise the All India Athletics Meet for the first time in its history. This special event will take place on July 19 at Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna. The meet will include the Open National Athletics Championship for senior men and women athletes.
According to officials, more than 250 athletes from different states will participate in this championship. Director General of Bihar State Sports Authority, Ravindran Shankar, said that famous athletes will compete in the event as it is important for their selection in upcoming international competitions like the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
The Athletics Association of Bihar is organising this meet under the supervision of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). The Patliputra Sports Complex will only provide the ground and other facilities for the event.
The championship will include various events such as sprints, middle and long distance races, relay races, steeplechase, long jump, high jump, triple jump, pole vault, shot put, discus throw, hammer throw, javelin throw, decathlon, heptathlon, marathon, and half marathon. Sports officials hope this event will inspire Bihar’s youth to take up athletics and bring more national competitions to the state in future.
