Bihar Tourism Department to Set Up Tent Cities and Civic Amenities for Shravani Mela Devotees

Devotees travelling from Sultanganj to the Bihar border during the Shravani Mela will receive accommodation, water, sanitation, and assistance services, with tent cities and cultural events planned along the route.

Patna: The Bihar Tourism Department has announced comprehensive preparations for the upcoming Shravani Mela, to be held from July 11 to August 9, with a focus on improving civic amenities and accommodation for devotees. A review meeting, chaired by Tourism Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh on Tuesday, finalised key aspects of the plan, which will extend support from Baba Ajaibinath in Sultanganj to Dumma on the Bihar border.

In a first, the department will also extend facilities for pilgrims travelling from Pahelaja Ghat to Baba Garibnath in Muzaffarpur. The infrastructure will include accommodation, drinking water, sanitation, food kiosks, Kanwar stands, electricity, and entertainment.
Four tent cities are planned along the Kanwaria route. A 600-bed tent city will be set up in Abrakha, Banka district, featuring water facilities, sanitation, Kanwar stands, electricity, and cultural programmes. Additionally, 200-bed tent cities will be developed in Khaira (Munger), Dhobai, and Sultanganj, each equipped with essential services.

To guide and support pilgrims, 12 temporary tourist information centres will be operational from Sultanganj to Dumma. Tourist assistance centres, mobile toilets, permanent rain shelters, and improved road and sanitation infrastructure will also be deployed.

Speaking at the meeting, Lokesh said the Bihar Tourism Department is committed to promoting Shravani Mela as a significant religious and cultural event while ensuring that devotees have access to all necessary civic amenities.

The meeting was attended by Special Secretary and Tourism Director Udayan Mishra, Deputy Secretary Indu Kumari, Managing Director of Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation Nand Kishore, General Manager Chandan Chauhan, and other officials.
