Patna: A passenger died due to suffocation in the overcrowded Bhagalpur Intercity Express on Tuesday. The incident happened between Bakhtiyarpur and Barh stations in the Danapur Railway Subdivision. The deceased has been identified as Ranjit Kumar, 35, who was a resident of Dalismanchak village under Barh police station.
Ranjit worked as a mason in Bakhtiyarpur. After finishing his work, he boarded the Bhagalpur Intercity Express with other workers to return home. The train was packed with passengers, and there was hardly any space to stand or breathe. Due to extreme heat and humidity, his health started deteriorating near Athmalgola station.
Passengers said Ranjit fell unconscious in the train. Two to three other passengers also felt sick due to suffocation and heat. When the train reached Barh station, railway police took Ranjit to Barh Subdivision Hospital immediately.
Doctors at the hospital declared him dead on arrival. This incident has raised concerns about the safety of passengers in overcrowded trains, especially during the humid monsoon days in Bihar.
