Patna: The Bihar Transport Department is preparing to roll out a state-wide digital monitoring system that will enable live tracking of buses through a dedicated mobile application and portal. The initiative includes two key platforms — the “Where Is My Bus” app for public transport users and a School Bus Management System for student safety.
The proposal was presented during a recent departmental meeting, where officials reviewed the roadmap for integrating technology into public transport operations across the state.
Digital Tracking Initiative
Under the proposed system, Bihar State Transport Corporation buses will be equipped with GPS devices to enable real-time tracking through the “Where Is My Bus” app. The platform is expected to provide passengers with live location updates, improving accessibility and reducing uncertainty in public transport services.
Officials said the app will also integrate additional services, including e-ticketing, to streamline passenger convenience and digital access to transport facilities.
School Bus Safety System
A separate School Bus Management System is being developed to monitor school transport operations more effectively. The portal will allow authorities and schools to track buses in real time, with a primary focus on student safety and operational compliance.
The system mandates that all school buses be painted yellow and fitted with GPS tracking devices and panic buttons. Officials said these measures are intended to strengthen emergency response mechanisms and ensure better oversight of school transport services.
Enforcement and Compliance Measures
During the meeting, the Development Commissioner directed officials to review existing penal provisions related to school bus violations. The aim is to ensure strict enforcement of safety rules and enable timely action against non-compliance.
Transport officials have been instructed to ensure full implementation of mandatory safety standards, including GPS installation and panic button systems, across all school buses operating in the state.
