Patna: The Bihar government has approved the construction of two new greenfield airports in Sonepur and Sultanganj, in what is being seen as a major step towards improving the state’s connectivity. With a total budget of around Rs 5,000 crore, the projects are expected to make air travel more accessible to people in different parts of Bihar while also supporting economic development.
In Sonepur, which lies in Saran district, around 4,228 acres of land will be acquired for building the airport. This will be a large project and is likely to play an important role in developing the region. Better connectivity is expected to help local businesses grow, attract tourists, and provide easier travel options for residents who currently depend on distant airports.
The second airport will be built in Sultanganj, located in Bhagalpur district, where about 931 acres of land will be acquired. This project is especially important for eastern Bihar, where infrastructure has been limited. The new airport is expected to connect the region more effectively with major cities, helping trade, tourism and daily travel.
The government has approved Rs 5,000 crore for both land acquisition and construction work. Officials believe that this funding will speed up the process and help start work soon. The projects are also expected to bring investment into the region, as better infrastructure often encourages companies to set up businesses nearby.
Apart from improving transport, the two airports are likely to create many job opportunities. People will find work during the construction phase as well as after the airports become operational. Overall, these projects are expected to strengthen Bihar’s transport system and support long-term growth by improving connections within the state and with the rest of the country.
