Patna: Bihar Vigilance Investigation Bureau on Thursday arrested Amod Mishra, an under secretary posted with the State Pay Commission, after he allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs 20,000 during a trap operation in Patna.
The operation was carried out at the Pay Commission office near the ISKCON Temple in the Kotwali police station area. Officials said the accused was apprehended immediately after accepting the alleged bribe.
Complaint Led to Verification
According to the Vigilance Department, the action followed a complaint alleging that the officer had demanded money in exchange for carrying out an official task.
After conducting a preliminary verification, the department found sufficient grounds to proceed with a trap operation. The complainant was asked to meet the accused as part of the planned operation, officials said.
The vigilance team, already stationed nearby, intervened after the money was allegedly handed over and arrested the officer on the spot.
Bribe Money Recovered
Officials said the alleged bribe amount of Rs 20,000 was recovered during the operation.
Following the arrest, Mishra was taken to the Vigilance Department’s office for questioning. Investigators are examining the official work linked to the alleged demand and whether any other government employees were involved.
The department has not disclosed the identity of the complainant or further details of the alleged transaction, stating that the investigation is continuing.
Case to Be Registered Under Anti-Corruption Law
Officials said legal proceedings are being initiated against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
He is expected to be produced before the competent court following the completion of procedural formalities. Investigators may also examine his assets, income sources and financial transactions to determine whether the case extends beyond the alleged bribery incident.
Vigilance Drive Continues
The arrest created activity within the Pay Commission office, where employees discussed the development during the day.
The Vigilance Department said it continues to monitor corruption complaints across government departments and conducts trap operations after verifying allegations. Several public servants have been arrested in similar operations in recent months.
Officials appealed to citizens to report instances where government employees allegedly demand bribes for providing public services. They said complaints are verified confidentially before legal action is initiated where evidence supports the allegations.
