Bihar Water Resources Department Launches Pre-Flood Safety Measures

Patna: With the 2025 flood season on the horizon, the Water Resources Department in Bihar has initiated a series of erosion control measures aimed at protecting embankments, hydraulic structures and other flood-prone locations across the state. The department is working with full preparedness to reduce the potential damage from flooding and river erosion.

To ensure quality and timely implementation, inspection teams comprising senior engineers and departmental officials have been deployed across various zones including Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, Beerpur, Samastipur, Patna and Katihar. The teams are assessing the progress of embankment restoration, breach closures, and other protective works, and will submit detailed reports to the headquarters.

Chief Engineer for Flood Control and Drainage, Sharad Kumar, along with Additional Secretaries Naveen and Pawan Kumar Sinha, is personally monitoring the fieldwork. The inspections focus on verifying the availability and condition of essential flood control materials such as E.C. bags, N.C., geo bags, gabions and boulder crates, as well as reviewing manpower, machinery, and quality control reports.

Officials emphasised that these pre-flood measures, being implemented under strict guidelines, are essential to minimise flood-related damage in the coming monsoon season.
