Patna: Amid mounting criticism from the opposition over Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s health, his son Nishant Kumar has come forward to counter speculation, affirming that his father remains in good health and is well-positioned to lead Bihar for another five years.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Nishant Kumar said, “My father is absolutely fine and capable. He has worked for the development of Bihar across sectors such as education and health over the past two decades.” His remarks come as opposition parties, particularly the RJD, continue to question the 73-year-old JD(U) leader’s fitness to govern.
Nishant also extended an olive branch to RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, referring to him as his “younger brother” and saying that he should “continue receiving his affection.”
While Nishant’s presence in political discourse has grown in recent months, he steered clear of confirming any personal entry into politics. “I am not entering politics right now,” he said, even as speculation about his future role within the JD(U) continues to swirl.
Appealing to voters ahead of the upcoming elections, Nishant urged people to support the NDA alliance, expressing hope that his father would return as Chief Minister. “The NDA should get a stronger majority than it did in 2010,” he said.
He also called on JD(U) workers to campaign door-to-door, highlighting Nitish Kumar’s development record since 2005. “Tell people what Bihar was like before 2005 and how it has transformed. Use statistics to show the work done in the last 20 years,” he said.
Though not officially in politics, Nishant Kumar’s increased public visibility and strategic endorsements have sparked renewed chatter about a possible dynastic handover within the JD(U) ranks.
