Bihar Weather Alert: IMD Issues Rainfall and Thunderstorm Warnings Across the State Until May 31

Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for widespread light to moderate rainfall across Bihar from May 24 to May 31, triggered by moist easterly and south-easterly winds. Several districts may experience heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and surface wind speeds ranging between 40 to 50 kmph.
The Patna Meteorological Centre has further warned that a low-pressure area is likely to develop in the west-central and adjoining northern Bay of Bengal around May 27, potentially intensifying the weather activity across the region.
Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued
An orange alert has been issued in districts including Samastipur, Vaishali, Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj, East and West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Shivhar, Madhubani, and Darbhanga for severe thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds reaching 50–60 kmph. A yellow alert has been sounded for the remaining districts, including Patna.

The capital city is expected to witness cloudy skies over the next 24 hours, with chances of drizzle or light showers accompanied by gusty winds. Residents have been advised to remain cautious and avoid outdoor activities during adverse weather conditions.

Rising Temperatures in Several Districts
Despite the rain, maximum temperatures have risen in most parts of the state, except in Begusarai, Banka, Munger, Madhubani, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, and Katihar. On Friday, Dehri was the hottest at 40.0°C, while Patna recorded a maximum of 36.1°C.
