Buxar: A deadly confrontation over sand business rivalry turned violent in Buxar district on Saturday morning, leaving three members of the same family dead and two others seriously injured after unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire in Ahiyapur village under the Rajpur police station limits.
According to the police, the attack took place on the banks of a canal where five relatives were walking. Armed assailants arrived in a car and sprayed bullets at the group. While two victims died on the spot, the third succumbed to injuries during treatment.
The deceased have been identified as brothers Vinod Singh Yadav, Sunil Singh Yadav, and Virendra Singh Yadav. The injured — Punj Singh Yadav and another relative — were initially taken to a private hospital in Kochas before being referred to Varanasi in critical condition.
Dispute Over Sand Dumping Triggered Attack
Preliminary investigations suggest the shooting was a fallout of a land dispute involving the dumping of gravel and sand. A heated argument had taken place between the two parties on Friday evening, which locals believed had been settled. However, police now confirm that the assailants had planned the attack in advance and lay in wait near the canal for the family members.
Police Deployment and Tension in the Village
The violent incident has triggered massive tension in the area. Locals, enraged by the killings, pelted stones at the car used by the attackers. Angry villagers also laid siege to the house of the accused, prompting police intervention.
Senior officials, including Buxar Superintendent of Police Shubham Arya and Sadar SDPO Dheeraj Kumar, along with forces from four police stations, were deployed to control the situation. The police dispersed the crowd and launched a manhunt to nab the suspects.
“A special investigation team has been formed. Raids are being conducted and the area has been sealed off to prevent further escalation,” SDPO Kumar said.
Road Blockade Protest by Villagers
Following the incident, aggrieved villagers and family members staged a protest by blocking the main road with a truck, demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits. The blockade brought traffic to a halt as hundreds gathered in anger and grief.
Senior police officers rushed to the spot to pacify the protesters. “We are taking this matter very seriously. The accused will be caught soon, and strict action will be taken,” assured SP Arya.
Security Stepped Up
As the situation remains tense, security has been heightened across Ahiyapur and nearby areas. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem. Police are probing the case from all angles, including business rivalry and land disputes.
