Patna: The southwest monsoon has gained momentum across Bihar and is currently active in a majority of the state’s districts. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon is expected to cover the entire state within the next 72 hours.
The meteorological department said the current monsoon trough is passing through Muzaffarpur along Bihar’s northern belt. At present, the monsoon is fully active in 21 districts, while it has entered parts of five additional districts. Weather experts have forecast that the remaining regions of Bihar will come under monsoon influence within the next two to three days.
The IMD has issued a statewide rainfall alert for Saturday. Orange alerts have been issued for 20 districts, while 18 districts are under a yellow alert. Strong winds with speeds reaching up to 60 kmph are likely in several areas. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, especially during thunderstorms and lightning activity.
Over the past 24 hours, districts including Khagaria and Supaul witnessed cloudy conditions. Kaimur recorded the highest temperature in the state at 39.9 degrees Celsius, while Patna registered a maximum temperature of 35.6 degrees Celsius. However, cooler night-time winds provided some relief from the prevailing heat and humidity.
Rainfall Forecast Across Bihar
According to the weather department, rainfall activity is expected to intensify across different parts of the state over the coming days.
13th–14th June: Rain is likely in Madhepura, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Banka, Munger, Khagaria, Saharsa, Jamui, Madhubani and Darbhanga districts.
15th–16th June: Showers are expected in Patna, Nalanda, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Begusarai, Samastipur and Jehanabad.
17th–18th June: Rainfall is forecast in Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj, East Champaran, West Champaran, Bhojpur, Arwal, Aurangabad, Rohtas, Kaimur and Buxar districts. Thereafter, widespread rainfall is expected across the entire state.
Meteorologists said monsoon activity is likely to remain strong over the next four to five days, resulting in widespread rainfall across most parts of Bihar. Northern and eastern districts are expected to receive significant precipitation, while intermittent showers are also likely in central and southern Bihar.
Experts noted that increased monsoon activity will help bring down temperatures and provide relief from humid weather conditions. The rainfall is also expected to benefit the agricultural sector, particularly the sowing of paddy and other Kharif crops, which is likely to accelerate with improved soil moisture levels.
Meanwhile, Patna is expected to remain cloudy throughout Saturday, with light to moderate rainfall likely in several areas. The IMD has also warned of the possibility of lightning strikes in isolated locations across the district.
