Bihar Weather Alert: Rain and Lightning Forecast in 26 Districts, Floods Affect Over 12 Lakh People
Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain and lightning alert for 26 districts of Bihar, with heavy downpours expected in the southern and northeastern parts of the state today. The alert comes as the region braces for more rain over the next three days, increasing concerns in flood-affected areas.
According to the Meteorological Center, rain is likely to persist until 27th September. Kishanganj, Araria, and Purnia districts are expected to experience heavy rainfall on 25th September, while Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul, Banka, Jamui, and Nawada could face heavy rain on 26th September. Rainfall is expected to subside after the 27th.
Currently, 12 districts in Bihar are grappling with floods, impacting around 12.67 lakh people across 64 blocks in Buxar, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Patna, Samastipur, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, and Katihar. Begusarai recorded the highest temperature over the last 24 hours at 39.5 degrees Celsius.
Two high school students, Chahat Kumar (14) and Mukund Kumar (14), were swept away in floodwaters while riding their bicycles on the Bariyarpur-Haveli Kharagpur State Highway in Munger late Monday night. Despite local divers and villagers searching for the boys, only their bicycles and slippers have been recovered. The incident occurred near Shivala in the Shampur police station area.
The IMD also reported a trough area merging in the West Central Bay of Bengal and a cyclonic circulation forming in the central Bay of Bengal, extending up to 5.8 km. This weather pattern is expected to bring further heavy rains to many districts of Bihar.
