Patna: Dense fog is set to continue across large parts of Bihar for the next two days, the Bihar Mausam Seva Kendra has warned, issuing an alert valid until December 15 as winter conditions tighten their grip on the state.
According to the forecast, moderate to dense fog is likely during night-time and early morning hours in a wide swathe of districts, including West and East Champaran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Gopalganj, Saran, Siwan, Buxar, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Kaimur, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Madhepura, Muzaffarpur, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnea, Samastipur, Saharsa, Vaishali, Patna, Gaya, Jehanabad, Aurangabad, Nalanda, Begusarai, Banka and Bhagalpur.
Meteorologists said fog intensity would vary from light in some areas to moderate or dense in many others, particularly in the plains where cold air and low wind speeds are allowing moisture to linger close to the ground.
Major Accident on Ara–Mohania Highway
On Friday morning, dense fog enveloped more than 10 cities, severely affecting road traffic and routine activities. Conditions were reported to be most severe in Begusarai and Buxar, where visibility dropped to almost zero in the early hours.
Poor visibility led to several accidents across the state. On the Ara–Mohania four-lane highway, four vehicles were involved in a collision after a container truck travelling from Koilwar bridge towards Chhapra Chowk rammed into a truck parked on the roadside. The impact crushed the front of the container, trapping the driver and cleaner inside. Police later rescued both and rushed them to hospital for treatment.
Officials have advised motorists to exercise caution, use fog lights and avoid unnecessary travel during early morning hours until conditions improve. The weather office said the persistence of fog is likely to continue as long as cold north-westerly winds remain weak and night-time cloud cover persists.
