Patna: Bihar witnessed sharply contrasting weather conditions on Thursday, with intense heat gripping parts of the south while much of the state experienced relief due to a shift in wind patterns.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Patna, westerly winds continued to drive high temperatures in districts such as Rohtas, Aurangabad and Kaimur, while easterly winds brought cooler conditions to the remaining 35 districts.
The highest temperature in the state was recorded at 41.6°C in Dehri in Rohtas district, with the mercury also crossing 40°C in Aurangabad and Kaimur.
Relief In Patna And Other Districts
In contrast, the influence of easterly winds led to a significant drop in temperatures across several regions. In Patna, the maximum temperature fell by around 5°C within 24 hours, settling at approximately 34°C.
Districts including Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Bhagalpur, Munger, Purnia and Araria recorded daytime temperatures between 31°C and 35°C. In Saharsa and Madhepura, temperatures remained below 30°C, offering notable respite from recent heatwave conditions.

Heat Likely To Intensify From April 19
Weather officials have warned that westerly winds are expected to regain dominance across the state from April 19, likely triggering a rapid rise in temperatures and potential heatwave conditions.
Earlier in the week, temperatures had already climbed to around 42°C under the influence of these winds before easing temporarily on Thursday.
Mixed Conditions Over Next Two Days
The Meteorological Department said both easterly and westerly winds are likely to influence Bihar over the next two days. While areas under westerly winds may see rising temperatures, regions experiencing easterlies are expected to remain relatively stable.
Yellow Alert For Seemanchal
A yellow alert has been issued for parts of the Seemanchal region — including Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia and Katihar — warning of possible thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds of up to 50 km/h.
Officials said weather conditions may deteriorate in these districts, even as other parts of the state prepare for a return of intense heat in the coming days.
