Patna: A spell of rain is continuing across Bihar, bringing relief from heat and benefiting agricultural crops, while floodwaters continue to affect 12 districts of the state.
A weather system remains active over North Bihar, with thunderclouds developing in several areas. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samastipur, Sitamarhi and Supaul on Monday.
Heavy rain is also forecast in Gopalganj, Siwan and West Champaran on Tuesday.
Thunderstorms likely in 19 districts
The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert for thunderstorms and lightning across 19 districts of North Bihar on Monday.
Meanwhile, humid and sultry conditions are expected to continue across South Bihar, including Patna.
After rainfall eased on Sunday, maximum temperatures increased in 10 districts, including Patna. Kaimur recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 36.8°C, while Patna received 42.4 mm of rain on Sunday.
Muzaffarpur likely to see moderate rain
Muzaffarpur is expected to experience moderate rainfall on Monday, with cloudy skies likely across most areas.
Dr A Sattar, Nodal Officer at the Rural Agricultural Weather Service Centre in Pusa, said skies are expected to remain cloudy over most places and moderate to heavy rain could occur in several areas.
The district received around an hour of rain on Sunday afternoon, recording 7 mm of rainfall.
The daytime rain also brought down temperatures. The maximum temperature fell by 1.5°C over the previous 24 hours to 30.4°C, which was 2.3°C below normal. The minimum temperature, however, rose by 2°C to 27.6°C, around 2.4°C above normal.
Bhagalpur gets 41 mm rain
Bhagalpur remained largely clear on Sunday, with only light cloud cover. However, Sabour and surrounding areas recorded 41 mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours, providing relief from heat and humidity.
The maximum temperature in the area was 30.6°C, while the minimum temperature was 24.9°C.
The Meteorological Department has forecast light rain in several parts of Bhagalpur between September 7 and 8.
The rainfall is providing much-needed moisture for paddy fields, but it is also creating difficulties for residents in flood-affected areas.
With more rain forecast across North Bihar and thunderstorms likely in several districts, authorities and residents in vulnerable areas are being urged to remain alert as the wet spell continues.
