Patna: Bihar is currently witnessing contrasting weather conditions, with intense heat and humidity affecting southern districts while several northern districts remain under a thunderstorm and rainfall alert.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures across the state are likely to rise by another 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days. As a result, residents of South Bihar may face even harsher heat conditions before weather patterns begin to shift later this week.
During the past 24 hours, temperatures crossed the 40-degree Celsius mark in two districts. Kaimur recorded the highest temperature in the state at 40.5°C, followed closely by Rohtas at 40.4°C. Buxar registered 39.6°C, while the capital city, Patna, recorded 38°C.
Meanwhile, dust storms with wind speeds of up to 68 kmph were reported in Arwal and Nawada districts. Light rainfall was recorded in Kishanganj. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and rain in 14 districts of North Bihar.
Meteorologists expect a significant change in weather conditions after June 10, with temperatures likely to drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius as pre-monsoon activity intensifies across the state.
Weather Forecast for the Coming Days
Most districts in Bihar are expected to witness maximum temperatures ranging between 38°C and 42°C over the next few days. Residents may continue to experience uncomfortable heat and humidity during afternoon hours, although mornings and evenings could provide some relief.
On June 10 and 11, heavy rainfall accompanied by winds of up to 60 kmph is likely in Araria, Kishanganj and Supaul districts.
From June 12 to 13, thunderstorm and rainfall activity is expected to intensify across most parts of North Bihar.
Beginning June 13, widespread rain accompanied by thunder is likely across the state, bringing relief from the ongoing heatwave-like conditions.
Patna Weather Today
The weather in Patna is expected to remain hot on Monday. While partly cloudy conditions may prevail during the day, strong sunshine and warm winds are likely to keep temperatures high.
The maximum temperature is expected to hover between 39°C and 40°C. Cloud cover may increase during the evening, but the chances of rainfall remain low at present.
Monsoon Likely to Reach Bihar by June 15
The southwest monsoon continues to advance rapidly across the country. According to the IMD, it has already covered 12 states and has fully advanced over Kerala, Karnataka, Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram.
The weather department has forecast that the monsoon is likely to enter Bihar by June 15, primarily through the districts of Purnia and Kishanganj.

Weather experts attribute the fluctuating conditions to a combination of moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal and hot air prevailing over northern India. Intense daytime heating is causing land surfaces to warm rapidly, while easterly winds are bringing moisture into the atmosphere.
