Patna: Weather conditions in Bihar are set to change again, with rain forecast across the state on Friday. The India Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for 20 districts, where strong winds are also expected.
The department has forecast heavy rain across most parts of Bihar on August 29, with the rainy spell likely to continue until September 1. An alert has also been issued regarding the possibility of lightning.
Sasaram records heavy rain
Sasaram received heavy rainfall during the past 24 hours, resulting in waterlogging in several areas.
In Patna, the sky remained cloudy throughout the day, accompanied by persistent humidity. Supaul recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 36.2°C.
Bihar rainfall deficit at 42%
Despite the forecast of widespread rain, Bihar has received significantly less rainfall than normal during the current monsoon season.
The state should have received 749.8 mm of rainfall so far, but has recorded only 434.4 mm, leaving a deficit of 315.4 mm, or 42%.
The upcoming spell of rain could help reduce the rainfall deficit to some extent.
Patna to remain cloudy
Patna is expected to remain generally cloudy over the coming days, with intermittent rain or thundershowers likely.
According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in the capital is expected to remain around 34°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 28°C between August 29 and August 31.
Why is Bihar seeing renewed rain?
The latest change in weather is attributed to increased monsoon activity.
Greater monsoon activity over eastern India is strengthening the influence of moisture-laden winds over Bihar. This is creating favourable conditions for cloud formation and thunderstorms accompanied by rain across different parts of the state.
The IMD has forecast increased monsoon activity in Bihar from August 26 to September 1.
With rain, strong winds and lightning expected in several areas, residents are advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and follow weather updates issued by the authorities.
