Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a significant increase in rainfall across Bihar over the next 48 hours, raising hopes of relief from the prolonged spell of hot and humid weather affecting much of the state.

According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, monsoon activity is expected to strengthen on Saturday and Sunday, bringing widespread rain, thunderstorms, gusty winds and lightning to many districts.

Orange Alert For Saturday

The IMD has issued an orange alert for 12 districts on Saturday, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.

The remaining districts are under a yellow alert, although parts of Rohtas, Bhojpur and Buxar may continue to experience hot and humid conditions despite the expected increase in rainfall elsewhere.

Residents have been advised to remain alert during adverse weather conditions.

Widespread Rain Expected On Sunday

A more significant change in weather is forecast for Sunday, June 28.

The IMD has placed 26 districts under an orange alert, while the remaining 12 districts are under a yellow alert.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected across most parts of the state, accompanied by winds of 40 to 60 kmph and the possibility of lightning in several areas.

Yellow Alert Continues On Monday

For Monday, June 29, the India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert across Bihar, including Patna.

Rain accompanied by strong winds is likely in several districts of north Bihar, while scattered showers are expected elsewhere.

Temperatures Likely To Fall

Meteorologists said sustained rainfall is expected to lower maximum temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, providing relief from the intense heat and humidity experienced in recent days.

They added that the southwest monsoon has reached most parts of Bihar, and continuous moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal is expected to further strengthen rainfall activity over the coming days.

Safety Advisory

The IMD has urged people to exercise caution during thunderstorms and lightning.

Residents have been advised to avoid open areas during severe weather, seek shelter in safe buildings and avoid standing under trees during lightning strikes.

Officials said widespread rainfall is likely to continue across most districts through the final days of June as monsoon conditions become more active across the state.
