Patna: Humid conditions continue across Bihar as intermittent cloud cover and scattered rainfall persist in several parts of the state. The Patna Meteorological Centre, has forecast scattered rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next 24 hours in Patna and 22 other districts.
The districts likely to experience the activity are Gaya, Aurangabad, Nalanda, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Begusarai, Samastipur, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Saharsa and Madhepura, along with Patna.
Winds in these areas may reach 30-40 kmph. Lakhisarai recently recorded winds of around 30 kmph.
Rain forecast over the next three days
A cyclonic circulation over the north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas is expected to maintain moisture and humidity across parts of Bihar, with cloud cover and scattered rainfall likely.
On September 16, light rain is likely across several North Bihar districts, including Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Supaul, Saharsa, Madhepura, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia and Katihar.
Thunderstorms accompanied by rain may also occur in parts of Patna, Vaishali, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Begusarai, Jehanabad, Nawada and Gaya.
On September 17, rainfall intensity could increase in some areas. Patna is likely to remain cloudy and may receive moderate rain during the day, while light rain is expected in Nalanda and adjoining areas. Several North Bihar districts, including Darbhanga, may also experience thunderstorms and rain.
On September 18, light rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in some districts, including Patna. The capital could receive rain on one or two occasions, while Nalanda may also see thunderstorms and rain. Cloudy conditions and light rain are expected in parts of North Bihar.
Heavy rain possible in four districts
The weather department has forecast heavy rainfall at one or two places in Begusarai, Khagaria, Muzaffarpur and Samastipur on September 17.
The forecast comes amid continued rainfall deficiency across Bihar.
Bihar faces 35% monsoon deficit
Bihar has received significantly less rainfall than its normal requirement this monsoon season. Against the expected 883 mm of rainfall by this point, the state has recorded only 571.9 mm, leaving a 35% deficit.
Several areas nevertheless received substantial rainfall during the past 24 hours. Kishanganj recorded 75 mm, followed by Katihar with 38 mm, Banka with 36.6 mm, Purnia with 29 mm and Munger with 26 mm.
With humidity, cloud cover and intermittent rainfall expected to continue over the coming days, weather conditions are likely to remain unsettled across parts of Bihar, particularly in North Bihar and the state’s eastern districts.
